LHS Freshman Academy Peer Leader Program:
The LHS Freshman Academy Peer Leader Program is reserved for students
who demonstrate positive attitudes about school and life and are interested
in providing help and hope to other students in our area. They act as
role models, mentors, ambassadors, academic tutors, and more.
Seniors:
Please remember to request your college and scholarship recommendation
letters from counselors and teachers at least two weeks before your
deadline. Also, remember there is a $3 fee for transcripts. You will
need to fill out a transcript request form in the counseling office
and allow two days for processing.
Career Cruising web site
available to all LHS students: If you are looking for a good web site
for career exploration, you will enjoy using www.careercruising.com.
This easy-to-use web resource allows students to take career tests that,
in turn, generate a list of 40 careers specific to that student’s
likes and dislikes. Each test takes about twenty minutes to complete.
Then, the student can click on each career to get more in-depth information
about it such as typical salary ranges, career path, education needed,
and even what post-secondary schools in Georgia offer a major or program
leading to that career. Please contact the counseling department for
the logon information for this excellent web site!
LHS
Career Center
The LHS Career Center is a place where students can explore post-high
school options such as college, technical college, the military, and
various careers. Computers are available for surfing career and college
web sites. Pamphlets, flyers, handouts, booklets, and more are available
for various colleges and careers. The center is open daily from 7:00
a.m.-3:30 p.m. Just stop by the Counseling Office and see Dr. Murphy
to gain access to the Center. Freshmen can take advantage of this resource
by taking the shuttle bus over in the afternoon after getting an activity
pass from Ms. Bell in the Freshman Academy front office.
Senior Advisement Scholarship Contest
In an effort to challenge the senior class, there will be a scholarship
contest among them with three winning categories:
1. The advisement that completes and enters the most scholarship applications,
2. The advisement that receives the greatest number of awards, regardless
of monetary value,
3. The advisement that is awarded the greatest dollar amount in scholarships.
The winning advisements will be rewarded with a Red Devil Raffle Party!
The raffle prizes will follow a going-away-to-school theme, with refrigerators,
microwaves, futons, televisions, and more!
